For now March remains Women's History Month, not that I ever need a reason to celebrate incredible women in my life. In honor of this month, a community collective I co-lead, BOP Philly, hosted Empower Her Hour at Insatiable Philly, a woman-owned restaurant in Point Breeze, South Philadelphia. About 40 women, and a few brave men, joined us for cocktails and community that evening.

Since Inauguration Day the state of the country has felt pretty bleak and I can feel a collective sense of grief and helplessness. To counter that despair I did what I know how to do, which is plan a party. This evening was an opportunity for me to selfishly connect with other women, identify small actions we can all take, and surround myself with smart people to feel less alone. Turns out I truly wasn't alone in wanting or needing those things.
In addition to our guests, we welcomed a few community partners and women we admire to share their stories and how they are tapped in. Jessi Sheridan, entrepreneur and coach, talked about the importance of community and building meaningful connections with other women. She shared her story about starting her company, Habituelle.
Renee, a Board Member for the League of Women Voters, spoke about the importance of staying informed and civically engaged during the current administration. We also promoted upcoming events hosted by the local chapter of Planned Parenthood, including a panel (in person and virtual!) about how to be an Ally to Trans and Nonbinary People.
Chef Denise, owner of Insatiable, and DJ Val Fleury spoke to the challenges of being women in male-dominated fields of work. It is valuable when women show up for each other and powerful things happen when we come together.
Cheers to empowering women all year round!
Save the date for our next BOP Philly event, a collaboration with Fat Babe Philly, a Clothing Swap at the Rail Park on May 10th!
